We innately appreciate objects that are beautiful and complete their surroundings. We understand that they belong and are in the right place, which suggests that all is well in the world. In essence, it helps us connect with that place we all know where we feel at peace and experience joy. My goal is to create pieces of furniture that put a quiet, gentle smile on your face as you go about your day.

Mark Dure-Smith

I’m a woodworker and furniture maker in Oakland, CA. I specialize in high-end furniture commissions, interior woodworking projects, detailed garden gates, and other interesting creative wood challenges. I value collaboration and know a piece can only be successful if it meets the user’s needs and expectations, so great communication is critical to a successful project. Working with beautiful wood and using traditional joinery to build lovely objects is a natural outcome of good collaboration and design.

I have been working with wood from a very young age but only recently decided to leave my day job for full-time furniture making. I’ve been an owner of a construction company, a teacher, an IT tech, and have spent the last 20 years developing and building large commercial renewable energy projects. Throughout my various careers, building furniture has been a constant, and I’m excited to focus on my passion to create beautiful objects out of wood that will be appreciated and used with joy.
